Jasmine always knew she wanted to be a mother. When she and her fiancé, Michael, found out they would be parents, they were thrilled and started dreaming of their lives together as a family. Sadly, Michael passed away in his sleep three months later. At 17 years old, Jasmine is a single mother, and though she realizes it won’t be easy, she also says “this will make me stronger.”
New to Florence Crittenton, Jasmine is already taking full advantage of the services offered, especially Baby Bucks and A Precious Boutique, our basic needs and second-hand clothing stores. “I don’t have a job so having good attendance helps me get clothes and diapers that I really need once my baby is born,” she says. Jasmine also attends after-school programs, such as Babies Ready For College, which “gives me the opportunity to learn more about being a good mother.”
Jasmine commutes for two hours and takes multiple buses and light rails to come to Florence Crittenton. She is determined to graduate high school and plans to attend college and become an OBGYN. “I want my daughter to know that she did not stop my life – my life only got better because of her.”
