How did you first hear about FloCrit, and what made you interested in volunteering?
Mortenson first became acquainted with FloCrit through our partnership with Mile High United Way (MHUW) in 2015 when we began volunteering during our annual MHUW giving campaign. Our colleagues felt a strong connection to FloCrit’s mission, and they set out to develop a partnership for volunteering on a regular basis, which we continue to do.

We are constantly inspired by the grit and determination of the FloCrit mothers to both care for their families and succeed in their academics under challenging circumstances. We love volunteering because we want to support the FloCrit families as they work to reach their dreams.

How long have you been volunteering with FloCrit?
Mortenson has volunteered with and supported FloCrit since 2015.

With which activities/events have you helped at FloCrit?
Mortenson team members have volunteered for a number of different efforts, including:
• Completing repairs on campus
• Sorting school supplies
• Packing and distributing backpacks
• Volunteering in the Baby Bucks school store
• Providing teacher support and cuddling babies in the Early Childhood Education Center
• Holiday gift sorting/distribution
• Participating in various family events (Mother’s Day Tea, Back to School Bash, and Fall Festival)

How does volunteering with FloCrit fit into your company’s priorities?
Mortenson is founded on the idea that together, we can build a better world. One of the ways we do that is through a strategic focus on education in the communities in which we work.

We recognize how important it is to the continued vibrancy of our communities that we invest in creating a stronger, more diverse, and equitable workforce. Our partnership with FloCrit allows us to make a tangible impact today while we help prepare the workforce of tomorrow.

What would you say to a group/company that is looking for a place to volunteer and considering FloCrit?
Do it! Volunteering is the best way to truly understand the impact of the school and its programs. We also appreciate that FloCrit offers a number of ways to volunteer, so we can make use of the different skills and interests of our team members—from helping out behind the scenes to interacting with families.

This is an organization that is actively working to break the cycle of poverty for two generations—teen mothers and their children. When you get to be a part of that important work, it’s not only inspiring, but we’ve seen firsthand how it builds stronger connections to the community and between our team members.
