Callie recently moved back to Colorado after graduating from Arizona State University with her Masters in Social Work, and wanted to find a nonprofit to volunteer with whose mission she believed in and specifically empowered women. Callie was also hoping to utilize her social work degree while learning more about the development side of nonprofits. “I’ve always been interested in the social services field,” says Callie. “After working for a while, I decided that I did want to have a career in social services, specifically social work, because it’s a very diverse field. I’m interested in the community activism, fundraising, and event planning side.” Callie’s previous job experience is in the hospitality industry, and she would like to incorporate that into helping people in her next career move.

Callie found Florence Crittenton Services when she typed “nonprofits empowering women” into an internet search. She ended up at FloCrit’s Facebook page, and was impressed with FloCrit’s history of helping women for 125 years. She also connected with the mission, “They’re working with generations—the whole family unit—as opposed to just the individual. This organization is making a difference for the people in the community and for these kids, giving them better chance for economic security.”

Callie was eager to volunteer in the admin and development side of FloCrit, and found a spot initially helping with Miles for Moms. She spent her time building buzz for the event among local businesses and getting sponsors for team prizes. She was also a panel facilitator at Career Day at the high school in the fall. Next up, she’ll be taking on the silent auction for the 125th Anniversary Cycles of Success Gala on March 8, 2018.
